Vlad III Dracula was Prince of Wallachia, in present day Romania, and was the inspiration for Bram Stoker's vampire novel. He is also the inspiration for my painting; based on the portrait of Vlad which is now in a museum in Austria, I have painted my friend's face as the infamous prince. This is the third painting where I have painted friends' faces as either characters in a painting such as
Frans Hals' Malle Babbe, or historical people such as
this British cavalryman.
